Historic & Nature (Surma via Jimma)

This route is significant for its breath taking nature, real tropical forest, spice, fruits, wild and cultivated coffee production and apiculture, and uninfluenced indigenous culture.

Day 1: Arrive at Addis Ababa. O/N Ghion Hotel.

Day 2: After breakfast drive to Jimma. En route visit the verdant land of West Shewa surplus grain producer, Wolkite, the Guraghe people’s country known steeple food' Inset’, false banana producer then, pass through the enticing Gorge of Gibe upper part of Omo River where birds can be seen in abundance. After check in to a hotel, visit the Palace of Aba Jifar situated at 7 km. to the west of the town on a hill. It was established in the second half of the 19th century A.D. This magnificent palace is consisted of king’s family mosque, courthouse, throne room, reception chamber, guesthouse, sentry tower, and balcony at which the king’s families watch the traditional song and dance performance. The Aba Jifar museum that displays the natural and cultural items that gives insight of the surrounding people and environment. O/N Tourist Hotel.

Day 3: After breakfast drive through the luxurious tropical forest, wild coffee, spices, fruits plants and grain to Mizan Teferi the base town to visit the surrounding areas. Bebeka coffee plantation site is the oldest and the most important one in the country. O/N camping.

Day 4: Drive to Tulgit; visit the village of the Surma people. The Surma are mainly dependent on subsistence agriculture and cattle keeping as well. They inhabit the western part of Omo National Park around the river Kibish and mountain of Maji.The Surma are famous for their body painting with local colors, in particular white chalk in different design. The females adorn themselves by inserting clay disc as the Mursi do. The men are well known for their stick fighting. O/n in tent.

Day 5: Drive to Kibish and visit Surma village. O/N camp.

Day 6: Around Kibish. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 7: Drive to Mizan Teferi. O/n and dinner in a hotel.

Day 8: After breakfast drive to Jimma. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 9: After breakfast drive to Addis Ababa.

Note: It is possible to combine this program with Omo valley programs and  be extended to Sudan.
