Birding at Debre Zeit and Awash National Park

Day 1: Drive to Debre Zeit 47 Km from Addis Ababa where there are many crater lakes for which the town is famous. You can see different water birds and various species of swallows and weavers, Hottentot teal, Red Bill Teal, and White backed Duck, Spur Winged Plover, Red Knobbed Coot, and etc can be seen. Lunch, Dinner and over night at the Kuriftu resort and Spa Hotel.

Day 2: After some early morning birding right by the hotel, we set off for Awash National Park. Birding in the park including a trip to the Filweha (hot spring). We will see birds like Abyssinian roller, Abyssinian Ground Horn bill, Wire tailed swallow, Buff crested Bustard, Dark chanting Goshawk, pygmy Falcon, Honey guide, Woodland Kingfisher, Kori bustard, Black shouldered Kite, Swallow-tailed Kite, Rosy patch shrike, Carmine Bee eater, Orange billed parrot, Lilac Breasted Roller, Lappet faced and Ruppell’s Vultures, Helmeted guinea fowl, Yellow billed horn bill etc. We will also see a variety of mammals, including Greater and Lesser Kudu, Warthog, Black backed jackal, Grivet monkey, Anubis baboon etc. O/N Awash.

Day 3: Full day birding in the park including a visit to Fentale volcanic mountain. O/N Hotel.

Day 4: Early Morning Birding around the camp and then return to Addis Ababa.
