Day 1: In the morning we will do birding within Addis Ababa first, around Addis Ababa abattoir And in the compound of Ghion hotel where one can see Black backed Tit, Warblers, Black Kite, Hooded Vulture, Pied Crow, Ibises, ravens etc. After lunch drive to Geferssa reservoir 20 Km, West of, Addis Ababa. The Blue winged Goose, Black Headed Siskin, and Abyssinian Long Claw, and Wattled Ibis are some of the birds one can see. Return to Addis Ababa .O/N Ghion Hotel.
Day 2: Leave early and drive north through the Sululta plain to Debre Libanos and the Jemma River Gorge. Debre Libanos is an important monastic center for Ethiopian Orthodox Christians established in the 13th century. On arrival at Debre Libanos, we will first stop at the alluring Zegawodeb River gorge viewpoint. The Zegawodeb River is one of the tributaries of river Jemma which in turn drains in to Nile, and there is a drop of elevation nearly 1000meters from the general level to the valley. Here at the gorge, and in the forest around the church we can expect to see the Banded Barbet, the Black headed forest oriole, the White billed starling, Red winged starling, the White winged cliff chat, the white backed black tit, white cheeked Turaco, Lammergeyer, Ruppell’s and Lappet faced vultures etc and We will also see one of Ethiopia’s endemic mammals, the Gelada baboon.We will leave Debre Libanos to Addis Ababa around 5.00pm.O/N Ghion hotel. Or Overnight at Ethio-German Lodge.
Day 3: Drive to Menagesha Suba Forest (about 55 Km). The Abyssinian cat bird, Banded Barbet, Golden backed wood pecker, Black headed forest oriole and Wattled ibis are some of the endemic species which have been recorded in this relatively small but dense, indigenous forest. Mammals like Menelik’s bushbuck, Colobous monkey, Common duiker, Warthog, Grivet monkeys will be seen. Picnic lunch and return to Addis Ababa in the late afternoon. O/N Ghion.
